Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is mandated to provide potable water and sanitation facilities to the rural population and planning and constructing mega water supply and, sewerage and drainage schemes in urban areas. Established in 1974, upgraded to an administrative department in 1992, merged with the C&W department in 2001, and re-established in November 2009 as an independent administrative department. The department has 02 CEs, 13 SE/DD, 35 Xens/DE, 73 SDOS/ ADEs, 156 S/Es, 1426 support staff and 9292 operational staff.
The vision of the Public Health Engineering Department is to ensure safe drinking water and proper sanitation for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to conserve natural water resources.
The mission of the Public Health Engineering Department is to ensure equitable access to safe, sustainable and affordable water and sanitation services to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by implementing efficient, sustainable and climate-resilient water supply & sanitation systems while actively promoting the conservation and sustainable management of natural water resources.
