NCHR was formed through the National Commission for Human Rights Act, of 2012. The Commission was created for thepromotion and protection of human rights according to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 andinternational human rights instrument.
The Commission has a head office in Islamabad headed by the Chairperson with regional offices in Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi. Each regional office consists of provincial members who have extensive knowledge of human rights issues in their province.
